Walk & Talk Therapy in Murfreesboro, TN
Therapy that moves with you — outdoors, in nature, at your own pace.
What Is Walk & Talk Therapy?
Walk & Talk therapy is exactly what it sounds like - therapy that takes place outdoors, moving through nature rather than sitting in an office or behind a screen.
Instead of a couch or a video call, we meet at a walking path in Murfreesboro and do the same therapeutic work you'd do in any session - exploring your inner world, working through what's heavy, building self-understanding - just with the ground beneath your feet and open air around you.
For many people, movement unlocks something sitting still doesn't. Thoughts come more easily. The body relaxes. The pressure of face-to-face eye contact softens. And something about being outside - in nature, in motion - makes the conversation feel less like an appointment and more like two people genuinely thinking together.
Why It Works Especially Well for Neurodivergent Adults
Walk & Talk therapy isn't just a novelty. For neurodivergent and highly sensitive clients, there are specific reasons it can be genuinely therapeutic in ways a traditional office setting can't fully replicate.
Movement supports regulation. For many autistic and ADHD adults, movement isn't just preferred, it's regulating. Walking activates the nervous system in a way that can reduce overwhelm, quiet hypervigilance, and make it easier to access the inner clarity that IFS work depends on. You may find you can go deeper when your body is moving.
Nature reduces sensory and social load. Office environments - fluorescent lighting, close quarters, the pressure of sustained eye contact - can be draining for sensitive and neurodivergent clients before a session even really starts. Being outdoors changes that. Natural light, open space, and side-by-side movement rather than face-to-face sitting shifts the whole sensory experience of therapy.
It's gentler for anxiety. For clients who find the formality of a therapy office activating, or who are brand new to therapy and nervous about what it will feel like, walking together can lower the anxiety significantly. There's something less intense about a conversation that happens in motion.
It integrates the body into the work. Many neurodivergent adults have complicated relationships with their bodies - years of sensory overwhelm, shutdown, or disconnection. Being physically present in nature, noticing what the body is doing during the session, can be a gentle way to begin rebuilding that relationship.
Where We Meet
Walk & Talk sessions take place along the Murfreesboro Greenway or at Barfield Crescent Park - both accessible, low-sensory outdoor spaces with paved or well-maintained paths.
Sessions are the same length as standard appointments - 50 minutes - and all standard fees and confidentiality practices apply.
The therapeutic work continues exactly as it would in any other session format.
A Few Practical Things to Know
Weather: Sessions are weather-dependent. If conditions aren't suitable, we'll move to a virtual session for that day - you'll always know in advance.
Privacy: We meet in public outdoor spaces, which means there's a possibility of passing other people. Conversations are kept as private as possible, and you're always in control of what you share and when.
Accessibility: Please let me know if you have any mobility considerations so we can choose the right path and pace for you.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and yourself. That's it.
